BYTES: The Reverse Tower Defense is a fresh take on the classic tower defense genre where you play as the attacker. Strategically build your own path and use special tiles to avoid and reduce damage to your Bytes.

The rogue AI known as “NLAI 74a” or “Complexus” has breached New Life’s security. Your mission is to prevent further damage to the city of East Grid by reclaiming the security nodes.

Dynamic AI

Bytes features an adaptive AI, Complexus, which counters your moves by deploying turrets she deems most effective. No path remains safe for long.

Complexus earns credits from destroying your Bytes and passing rounds, using them to buy and upgrade turrets just like a player would.

With semi-random elements, no level will play the same way twice.

Complexus can utilize 8 different types of turrets.

Strategy Gameplay

Bytes is all about adapting to new threats and minimizing damage by constructing your path carefully.

Combine Special Tiles to navigate levels. Use them to protect your Bytes, leap over gaps, teleport past walls, or outrun turrets.

Adjust your Bytes’ formation to either cluster them together or spread them out, depending on the threat.

Choose between three different types of Bytes, or customize your own waves in the Byte Editor.

Non-linear Level Select

Complete levels, unlock upgrades, and take on more challenging nodes to reclaim the 71 security nodes of East Grid in any order you prefer.

The story progresses as you complete Story Nodes, which you can tackle in any sequence. The game remembers the order you complete them in, allowing you to revisit previous scenes.

A Complete Story

Bytes features a full narrative with two primary endings and dialogue options for character interactions. Play as a hacker hired by New Life to stop their rogue AI, Complexus, from causing chaos in the city.
